Dr McCombe is a Consultant Anaesthetist. She graduated from St George’s Hospital Medical School, London, in 2000. She completed a rotation in general internal medicine, during which time she gained her membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) UK. She gained Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2007. She was a consultant at Frimley Park Hospital, the first hospital in the UK to be awarded ‘Outstanding’ status by the independent regulator of all health and social care services in England, the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Her special interest is in obstetric anaesthesia and she has completed advanced training in this area.
Dr McCombe gained an MA in Medical Ethics and Law at Keele University in 2012 and since then has lectured extensively internationally on ethico-legal subjects such as capacity, consent and advanced decision-making. She has been Honorary Secretary for the Society for Ethics and Law in Medicine and is co-writing the Oxford Handbook of Medical Ethics and Law.
She has been involved in training and education and has sat on national committees including the Professional Standards Committee of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. In addition to contributing chapters to several medical textbooks, Dr McCombe has written two books which have become the best selling texts for those preparing for the UK FRCA Primary exam.
